Doctors from Irkutsk and the University of Grenoble-Alpes continue to work together on the implementation of the treatment program for the malignant liver tumors. This week, one of the leading surgeons of the University Hospital Center of Grenoble, Mr. Mircea Chirica, arrived to the capital of Eastern Siberia. His trip here was made possible by the joint Russian-French project “Evolution of Viral Hepatitis in Liver Cancer” presented by the Irkutsk State Medical University and the Analytical Immunology of Chronic Pathologies Laboratory (IPAC) of the Advanced Biosciences Research Albert Bonniot Institute (IAB) of University Grenoble-Alpes.Doctors from Irkutsk and the University of Grenoble-Alpes continue to work together on the implementation of the treatment program for the malignant liver tumors. This week, one of the leading surgeons of the University Hospital Center of Grenoble, Mr. Mircea Chirica, arrived to the capital of Eastern Siberia. His trip here was made possible by the joint Russian-French project “Evolution of Viral Hepatitis in Liver Cancer” presented by the Irkutsk State Medical University and the Analytical Immunology of Chronic Pathologies Laboratory (IPAC) of the Advanced Biosciences Research Albert Bonniot Institute (IAB) of University Grenoble-Alpes.

A significant part of Mr. Chirica’s visit is taking place at the Regional Cancer Center. In particular, he has examined the operating unit and the ICU departments of the oncology center, has examined their equipment and capabilities, and was also present when performing operations on left-sided and right-sided hemihepatectomy conducted by the deputy chief physician of the dispensary for the surgical unit, MD, professor Rodion Rasulov.

“We are very grateful to our French colleague for having managed to find a few days to visit Irkutsk: I perfectly understand how busy his work schedule is in Grenoble, where the list of lectures and operations is compiled almost a year in advance,” the head doctor of the "Regional Cancer Center", Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Victoria Dvornichenko has underlined.

“Surgeons of such a high level are comparable to the most famous conductors, whose concerts are scheduled not even for months, but years in advance,” Oleg Yaroshenko, Health Minister of the Irkutsk Region, has joined Victoria Dvornichenko’s opinion. - Together with our colleagues from Grenoble, we intend to develop such an advanced medical branch as transplantology. This program received the support of the chief transplantologist of Russia, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Gotye. The result of its first stage was a successful liver transplant, performed at the end of November at the Irkutsk Regional Clinical Hospital. However, we rely not only on this hospital: there are two flagships in the Priangarye health care system, one of which is the Regional Cancer Center. It has a unique qualification level of personnel, a large list of technologies developed and excellent material and technical equipment. So, our main goal today is to unite the efforts of these two institutions in the field of transplantology. Because, for many patients with hepatocellular liver cancer, the most optimal treatment regimen today is, precisely, the transplant of a donor organ.

“It is very good that, within the framework of the Russian-French grant “Evolution of viral hepatitis to liver cancer”, it is possible to develop such a direction as liver cancer,” has pointed out Tamara Krupskaya, pro-rector of IGMU for international relations and academic work with foreign students. - The value of such cooperation is truly immeasurable, and we are fortunate to have such reliable and professional partners.

Indeed, Mr. Mircea Chirika is one of the best French specialists in this field today, and he has generously shared his knowledge with Irkutsk doctors. In the Regional Cancer Center, he read several lectures on “Taking, preserving and transporting donor liver”, “Liver transplantation: preoperative preparation, stages of operation, postoperative patient management”, “Selection, preparation and management of a liver transplant recipient”, has examined patients (recipients) prepared for liver transplantation and gave a number of specific practical recommendations.
