Next month, the long-awaited construction of the new radiological building for the Cancer Center will begin – starting with the foundation preparing for the impressive six-story building. This was told by the head physician of the Regional Cancer Center, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Victoria Dvornichenko during a press conference on World Cancer Day (February 4).

“Then we will begin creation of a PET center, as well as a center for radionuclide therapy - as a result, residents of the Irkutsk region won’t have to go for treatment to Krasnoyarsk, Obninsk, Moscow,”has emphasized Victoria Dvornichenko.

In addition, the head physician of the Cancer Center has told reporters about cooperation with Japanese colleagues. In particular, she talked about the creation of an international endoscopy school on the basis of this medical organization: recognized experts from the Land of the Rising Sun would share their best practices with doctors from the Angara region. Moreover, Japanese endoscopists will train not only cancer specialists, but also doctors from all over the Irkutsk region to diagnose and treat early cancer of the stomach, esophagus and intestines with minimally invasive methods. The first master classes will take place in the near future, it is expected that more than thirty Siberian doctors will take part in them. In turn, there is something to learn for the Japanese colleagues: surgeons of the Cancer Center will share their experience in treating cancer in the later stages.
