  • Oncologists from Germany highly appreciated the experience of Irkutsk colleagues

    19.09.2016 05:58:39

Last week international scientific-practical conference "Modern technologies in cancer diagnosis and treatment" was held in Irkutsk. Oncologists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Omsk, Irkutsk, as well as from Germany and China came to the capital of Eastern Siberia. Pancreatic and breast cancer became the main topics of discussion.

    - It was very interesting, to see how the surgeons from Germany approach the treatment of pancreatic cancer, - says head physician of the Center, doctor of medical sciences, Professor Victoria Dvornichenko. - It appears that the first and the second stage of this disease are treated surgically, and then chemotherapy is prescribed. As for the patients with the third and fourth stages, they are not operated at all in Germany and in many other countries. While in Russia, 70% of patients seeking treatment are in the fourth stage of the disease.

And the Irkutsk Regional Cancer Center has standardized the fourth stage pancreatic cancer surgeries. Thus, the deputy head physician of Cancer Center for surgery, MD, Professor Rodion Rasulov has demonstrated his surgical skills in practice to the visiting colleagues. The assisting German physician, was impressed with how smart and fascinating Irkutsk doctor was working in the abdominal cavity. It seems that Dr. Rasulov knows every vessel there: which one can be removed, which one it should be tied and how for the operation to be radical.

    - And we proved once again - at the international level! – that our specialists not only brilliantly cope with the most complex cases, but they can teach their art to the most famous foreign colleagues, - says Victoria Dvornichenko. - So, for the patients with third and fourth stages of pancreatic and breast cancer taking trips to Israel and Germany clinics is often meaningless: some types of operations, which have become routine in Irkutsk, simply cannot be carried out there today.

But the anesthesia care and the organization systems are much more reasonable in Germany than in Russia. For example, a patient is hospitalized after he is examined by the anesthesiologist, and hence he comes to the hospital already prepared for surgery. On the other hand ,in our country, the patient undergoes anesthetic examination after hospitalization.

    - We will definitely adopt this experience. German colleagues are very good economists, and their practice reduces the time spent by a person in the hospital. So, now anesthetist will start to work with patients in the out-patient clinic. By the time the patient is hospitalized, all the necessary tests will be done, and the anesthetist will process them and give a conclusion, allowing the use of this or that narcosis - sums up Victoria Dvornichenko. - However, not only this experience will be taken into account: almost every presentation given at the conference contained something new for us - something that will allow us to do our job even better.

The big impression on many of the visiting conference participants was made by teleclinic, which has been carrying out a mutual exchange of medical experience between Irkutsk and German oncologists since 2015. And guests from Harbin have even expressed a strong desire to work with Irkutsk doctors in the telemedicine field: on-line consultations on the use of outpatient chemotherapy, emergency aid to oncological patients, and on a number of other issues that will be very helpful for them.
