The II Regional Scientific-Practical Conference “The Newest Technologies of Ultrasonic Examination in Oncology”
On February 9-11th, 2016 The Irkutsk Regional Cancer Center (IRCC) held the II Regional Scientific-Practical Conference “The Newest Technologies of Ultrasound Examination in Oncology”, which gathered the community of ultrasonographers from Irkutsk Region and other regions of Russia.
In September 2015 the Japanese physician, head of the ultrasound department of the National Cancer Hospital (Tokyo) Yasinori MIDZUGUCHI, who previously came to Irkutsk and gave lectures and master classes to local doctors. Having visited Irkutsk Cancer Center, Yasinori MIDZUGUCHI highly appreciated professional qualification of Irkutsk doctors, and the equipment available only to oncologists in Irkutsk.
In his second visit to Irkutsk, Japanese doctor decided to focus on counseling patients with pancreas and liver malignant tumors.
Most of the conference time was dedicated to a workshop on the ultrasound technology use in the diagnosis of cancer according with the standard of the National Cancer Center of Tokyo. These diagnostic technologies were compared with the CT scan results. And another part of the conference consisted of clinical analysis and examination of 11 IRCC patients. The examination was conducted under the leadership of ultrasound department chief of the Tokyo National Cancer Center, professor MIDZUGUCHI, assistants - head of the Moscow Cancer Hospital №62 ultrasound diagnostics unit Vladimir Kapustin, and head of the IRCC ultrasound diagnostics unit (Irkutsk) Konstantin Korneyev.
An important factor is the contrast-enhanced ultrasound. This method was first demonstrated in Russia by a Japanese physician. It allows to diagnose complex pathology at the early stages of cancer.
For oncology it is very important as diagnosis of the liver and pancreas malignant tumors in Russia are recognized late.
Also, a master class was given by Vladimir Kapustin on the use of Fusion function - combination of CT and ultrasound in real time for a more accurate diagnosis.
The lectures of Professor Yasinori MIDZUGUCHI and Vladimir Kapustin have addressed the questions on modern ultrasound technology in oncological practice.
